The village of Aigües…
AIGÜES ( Valencian) also called ‘Aguas de Busot’ ( Catalan ) is located at 300 m altitude in the fascinating mountain landscape of Alicante at a short distance from the beaches of El Campello and San-Juan.
What is striking about this village is that it was able to maintain it’s typical Mediterranean character and charm despite the flow of tourists and the excessive constructions which sometimes sadly are a typical view of the Spanish coast. Aigues currently has approximately 1.050 inhabitants .
Aigues , which is Valencian for “waters”, has its name from the existence of the well of the Cabeço d’Or . The source of the river Aigues is also located here . Hydrothermal processes enrich the source water with a significant amount of iron and sulfur, which also explains the medical qualities of the water .
The proximity of the sea in El Campello ( 10min ), the provincial capital, Alicante ( 20 min), the tourist metropolis of Benidorm ( 30 min), the surrounding nature, the calm and pleasant and sunny climate all year round, all this makes Aigues an ideal place to do trips , to live or to have lovely holidays.
In terms of history, there is a lot of attention in the form of old buildings and it is very nice walking and hiking all up to the moutains .
The annual celebration of “ Moros y Cristianos ” which takes place during the last week of August is one of the most important events in the Aigües year .
During this week you will be viewing and experience parades, parties, activities for children, a gigantic ‘ paella ‘ for everyone and more entertainment for children and adults.
Aigües has about 5 hotels and offers a handful of restaurants .
